No. 527 Squadron (RAF) during the Second World War

No.527 Squadron was a radar calibration squadron formed to serve in the south of England and East Anglia, but whose area of operations eventually extended up to the north of Scotland.

The squadron was formed at Castle Camps (Cambridgeshire) on 15 June 1943, and used its Blenheims and Hurricanes to fly radar calibration sorties in East Anglia and the south of England. Hornet Moths arrived in December 1943, and Spitfires in July 1944.

On 1 September 1944 the squadron absorbed No.528 Squadron, gaining Oxford aircraft and Lincolnshire as an operational area. The squadron retained these duties until 1 May 1945, when it absorbed No.526 Squadron, taking over its radar calibration and communications duties in the north of Scotland. The squadron was disbanded on 15 April 1946.
